What to do while you wait.
Keep children, pets, and anyone without proper footwear away from the broken glass. Shards can scatter several feet from the break point.
Glass still attached to the frame can fall without warning and cause deep cuts. Leave loose pieces alone until our technician arrives.
If you must walk near the area, wear closed-toe shoes and work gloves. Thin slippers or bare feet are a serious hazard.
Use a heavy tarp, thick cardboard, or plastic sheeting secured with tape to block wind, rain, and debris until we arrive.
Take photos of the damage from both inside and outside. These help our technician prepare the right glass size and type before arriving.

Overview
Mississauga's windows are shaped by three things that set it apart from Toronto. Most of the city was built between the postwar years and 2005, starting with Applewood Acres and running through the planned new towns of Erin Mills (1968) and Meadowvale (1969). It is colder than downtown. And it has its own permit and heritage rules. Because most of the city was built out by 2005, most houses here are at least 20 years old, and any original sealed units in them are at or past a typical 10 to 25 year service life.
So the usual job is a fogged or cracked sealed unit in a frame that is still sound, and the fix is a new sealed unit rather than a new window. OhMyGlass Window and Door Repairs checks the frame and sash first, then replaces only the failed glass. The frame matters, because glass-only repair needs a sound one: 1980s wood windows often used less dense wood that tends to warp, and a warped sash is the exception that makes it a window-replacement job rather than a glass repair. We will tell you if that is where you are.
The weather records most people call Toronto's are actually taken in Mississauga, because Toronto Pearson International Airport is in Malton in the city's northeast end. Mississauga has 3,880 heating degree-days against 3,520 at Toronto City Hall, about 10% more heating demand, and January at Pearson averages −6.3 °C against −4.2 °C downtown. Pearson's record low is −31.3 °C, and on January 25, 2026 it recorded 46 cm of snow, a single-day record, with the month ending at 88.2 cm.
Mississauga's permit rules are the simplest in the GTA for this work. New glass in an existing frame does not change the opening, and the City's list of common projects says even replacing a window or door with one of the same size does not need a building permit, while adding or enlarging an opening does. Send us a photo and tell us your neighbourhood and building type, and we will tell you whether it is a glass-only job and which approvals apply.
Mississauga's building layers and what they mean for glass
The city incorporated in 1974, merging the Town of Mississauga with the formerly independent Port Credit and Streetsville. Square One opened the same year.
founded in 1836 and Ontario's first heritage conservation district. Older, heritage-sensitive windows.
incorporated as a village in 1858, with Timothy Street's 1825 house, one of the oldest brick houses in Peel Region.
the original village core is now a heritage district, with fast condo growth around it; one 72-acre redevelopment is planned for up to 3,900 homes.

large planned new towns started in 1968 and 1969, so the original sealed units there are well past typical life.

Local rules in Mississauga compared with Toronto
The permit side is easier here than in Toronto; the heritage side is stricter inside a district. General information, not legal advice.
does not change the opening, and is generally treated as repair in both cities.
Mississauga needs no permit for replacing an existing one with the same size. Toronto's equivalent exemption covers only single-dwelling detached, semi and row houses.
a permit is required, in both cities.
Meadowvale Village, Old Port Credit Village and Streetsville. Every property inside them is a designated heritage property.
the City lists a change to windows and doors, or the addition of new window and door openings, as work needing heritage approval. Check your Heritage District Plan first.
by default the corporation repairs common elements and owners maintain their units, and your declaration can change that. Ontario's Central L postal region, which includes Mississauga, has 5,898 condo corporations, 44.3% of the provincial total.
Condensation, thermal cracks and rebates
A colder city changes what your glass can tolerate, and changes what a rebate will and will not cover.
classic NRC data put the limit for double glazing at about 41 to 49% indoor humidity at −18 °C outside. Health Canada recommends 30 to 50% indoors, so aim for the low end in a cold snap.
glass cracks from the edge when the sunlit centre warms and the framed edge stays cold. Partial shade, insulating blinds and heat vents aimed at the glass all add to the stress.
Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays $100 per rough opening for complete ENERGY STAR windows and doors, with an energy assessment and at least two upgrades required. ENERGY STAR certifies the assembled window, so a replacement sealed unit on its own generally does not qualify. Confirm with the program.
it requires an M postal code.
repairing and restoring is often more cost effective than replacing, and do not assume that new windows are more energy efficient.

Frequently asked questions: Mississauga window repair
Do I need a permit to replace window glass in Mississauga?
Generally not. New glass in an existing frame does not change the opening, and the City's list of common projects says even replacing a window or door with one of the same size does not need a building permit, while adding or enlarging an opening does. Condo owners still need their corporation's approval, and designated heritage properties need heritage approval for changes to windows and doors.
Can I repair the windows on a heritage house in Streetsville or Port Credit?
Yes, and the City encourages it: its heritage guide notes that repairing and restoring original windows is often more cost-effective than replacing them. Every property inside Mississauga's three heritage conservation districts is designated, and the City lists a change to windows and doors as an alteration needing heritage approval, so check your Heritage District Plan before anything visible changes.
Why do my Mississauga windows get more condensation than my friend's downtown?
Mississauga is colder. It has about 10% more heating degree-days than Toronto City Hall, and January at Pearson averages about two degrees colder than downtown. Colder glass condenses at lower indoor humidity. Keep winter humidity within Health Canada's 30 to 50% range, toward the low end on the coldest nights, and replace failed sealed units.
Is there a rebate for replacing foggy glass in Mississauga?
Generally not for glass-only work. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program pays $100 per rough opening for complete ENERGY STAR windows and doors, with energy assessments and at least two upgrades required. A replacement sealed unit on its own is not an ENERGY STAR window, so confirm with the program before counting on it. Toronto's HELP loan requires an M postal code.
My 1980s wood windows feel soft. Is that still a glass job?
Maybe not. 1980s wood windows often used less dense wood that tends to warp, and glass-only repair needs a sound frame. We check the frame and sash first and tell you honestly if it has become a window-replacement job.
